ROBIN DINGEMANS
när...

när… is a multi-iteration choreopoem for 7 BIPOC women who each chose a BIPOC female writer towards the creation of solos. These are woven together in different formats: live performance, a digital book of images & texts, short format video, exhibition, & a small cast version for schools. This new original work is in part a response to Ntozake Shange's iconic choreopoem for colored girls who considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf (1976).
It celebrates pluralism, women, community & the artistic praxi of this exceptional team. Initial R&D has been conducted through creation of pilot work in progress video solos. The diversity of the team’s modalities make it imperative to respond with a project design to meet this exceptional teams broad talents, experiences, & skills. The resulting works will not be a singular traditional ensemble work but a constellation of works. Intersections of starting points and ideas are creating new interactions, at the same time as some of the pairings of performer-choreographers and writers working towards evening length works collaborating outside of this original invitation.
